ACS Dental Outreach Initiative
On June 1, 2004, ACS Government Healthcare Solutions (ACS GHS) launched a community service program in the State of Georgia, focused on breaking down healthcare barriers to under served children. Through the ACS Government Healthcare Solutions Dental Outreach Initiative, licensed dentists volunteered and provided free dental screening to under served children throughout the State of Georgia. The overall goal was to educate the targeted community by informing children and their parents that proper dental care will lead to fundamental improvements in their health status.
In collaboration with the Georgia Dental Society, the North Georgia Dental Society, local school districts and churches, ACS GHS provides education on proper dental hygiene and on-site oral screenings by licensed dentists. To foster a good dentist-patient relationship, the screenings are held in locations familiar to the children, such as schools, community centers and churches, versus a dental office. To help reinforce what they have learned, each child receives take-home products, compliments of ACS GHS, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, brush/floss calendar, parent educational literature and the results of the screening evaluation. The dentists’ further pledge to perform all follow-up services identified as a result of the screening.
This program has proven to be a true success and has demonstrated a vital need for improved access to dental care within the at-risk elementary school populations where it has been introduced. To continue this community service, a commitment was made to expand to other states and to educating an additional 3,000 low-income children and their families.
Since its initial launch in 2004, the ACS GHS Dental Initiative has expanding the program to include the states Florida in 2005, Mississippi and Washington, DC in 2006, and Texas and Maryland in 2007. For 2008 the initiative has launched in Tennessee with additional expansions to New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Wyoming.
As of January 2008, the program has:
- Educated and Screened more than 20,000 children
- Performed at 56 locations nation-wide; these locations include: 46 Georgia cities; nine Florida cities; one Maryland city; four Mississippi cities; one city in Tennessee, Texas and Washington DC
- Found that 61 percent of those screened have poor dental hygiene
- Assessed that 39 percent of those screened are in need of follow-up care within one month or less for dental disease

As a service company, ACS knows that our people make all the difference and that our commitment to service goes hand in hand with our dedication to our communities. Our employees routinely participate in activities that support cancer research, extend access to healthcare, ensure a sound education, and many other worthy causes.
As a corporation, ACS supports a number of important initiatives that focus on education, community development, and technology literacy. To coordinate all of our excellent initiatives, we are very proud to have established the ACS Philanthropic Foundation.
The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, that assists in furthering education outreach in the communities where our employees serve. It provides programs that address the needs of education and technology enrichment to students in inner-city schools and communities. Educational programs currently supported and administered include:
Winners For Life
In 2005, Winners For Life began awarding college scholarships to at-risk teens. The $2,000 scholarship is designed for students who are in financial need and demonstrate a motivation to succeed, and may be used to attend a local community college or trade school. In May 2006, more than 50 scholarships were awarded. This year, that number will double to 100 scholarships. ACS is proud to be the founding corporate sponsor of the Winners For Life Foundation.
